לֶ֔חֶם bread ,le·ḥem
אֵ֥יןbut no’ên

Lamentations 4:5הָאֹֽכְלִים֙Those who once atehā·’ō·ḵə·lîm
לְמַ֣עֲדַנִּ֔יםdelicacieslə·ma·‘ă·ḏan·nîm
נָשַׁ֖מּוּare destitutenā·šam·mū
בַּחוּצ֑וֹתin the streets ;ba·ḥū·ṣō·wṯ
הָאֱמֻנִים֙those brought uphā·’ĕ·mu·nîm
עֲלֵ֣יin‘ă·lê
תוֹלָ֔עcrimsonṯō·w·lā‘
חִבְּק֖וּhuddleḥib·bə·qū
אַשְׁפַּתּֽוֹת׃סin ash heaps .’aš·pat·tō·wṯ
Lamentations 4:6עֲוֺ֣ןThe punishment‘ă·wōn
בַּת־of the daughterbaṯ-
עַמִּ֔יof my people‘am·mî
וַיִּגְדַּל֙is greaterway·yiḡ·dal
מֵֽחַטַּ֖אתthan [that]mê·ḥaṭ·ṭaṯ
סְדֹ֑ם of Sodom ,sə·ḏōm
הַֽהֲפוּכָ֣הwhich was overthrownha·hă·p̄ū·ḵāh
כְמוֹ־inḵə·mōw-
רָ֔גַעan instantrā·ḡa‘
וְלֹא־withoutwə·lō-
יָדָֽיִם׃סa handyā·ḏā·yim
חָ֥לוּturned to helpḥā·lū
בָ֖הּher .ḇāh
Lamentations 4:7נְזִירֶ֙יהָ֙Her dignitariesnə·zî·re·hā
זַכּ֤וּwere brighterzak·kū
מִשֶּׁ֔לֶג than snow ,miš·še·leḡ
צַח֖וּwhiterṣa·ḥū
מֵחָלָ֑בthan milk ;mê·ḥā·lāḇ
עֶ֙צֶם֙their bodies‘e·ṣem
אָ֤דְמוּwere more ruddy’ā·ḏə·mū
מִפְּנִינִ֔ים than rubies ,mip·pə·nî·nîm
גִּזְרָתָֽם׃סtheir appearancegiz·rā·ṯām
סַפִּ֖ירlike sapphires .sap·pîr
Lamentations 4:8תָּֽאֳרָ֔םBut now their appearancetā·’o·rām
חָשַׁ֤ךְis blackerḥā·šaḵ
מִשְּׁחוֹר֙than soot ;miš·šə·ḥō·wr
לֹ֥אthey are not
נִכְּר֖וּrecognizednik·kə·rū
בַּחוּצ֑וֹתin the streets .ba·ḥū·ṣō·wṯ
עוֹרָם֙Their skin‘ō·w·rām
צָפַ֤דhas shriveledṣā·p̄aḏ
עַל־on‘al-
עַצְמָ֔םtheir bones ;‘aṣ·mām
הָיָ֥הit has becomehā·yāh
יָבֵ֖שׁas dryyā·ḇêš
כָעֵֽץ׃סas a stick .ḵā·‘êṣ
Lamentations 4:9חַלְלֵי־Those slainḥal·lê-
חֶ֔רֶבby the swordḥe·reḇ
הָיוּ֙arehā·yū
טוֹבִ֤יםbetter offṭō·w·ḇîm
מֵֽחַלְלֵ֖יthan those who diemê·ḥal·lê
רָעָ֑ב of hunger ,rā·‘āḇ
שֶׁ֣הֵ֤םwhoše·hêm
יָז֙וּבוּ֙ waste away ,yā·zū·ḇū
מְדֻקָּרִ֔יםpierced with painmə·ḏuq·qā·rîm
שָׂדָֽי׃סbecause the fieldsśā·ḏāy
מִתְּנוּבֹ֖תlack produce .mit·tə·nū·ḇōṯ
Lamentations 4:10יְדֵ֗יThe handsyə·ḏê
רַחֲמָ֣נִיּ֔וֹתof compassionatera·ḥă·mā·nî·yō·wṯ
נָשִׁים֙womennā·šîm
בִּשְּׁל֖וּhave cookedbiš·šə·lū
יַלְדֵיהֶ֑ן their own children ,yal·ḏê·hen
הָי֤וּwho becamehā·yū
לְבָרוֹת֙their foodlə·ḇā·rō·wṯ
לָ֔מוֹlā·mōw
בְּשֶׁ֖בֶרin the destructionbə·še·ḇer
בַּת־of the daughterbaṯ-
