וַיִּרְדְּפֵ֣הוּ pursued him ,way·yir·də·p̄ê·hū
וַיָּ֖נָסand Gaal fledway·yā·nās
מִפָּנָ֑יוbefore him .mip·pā·nāw
רַבִּ֖יםAnd many [Shechemites]rab·bîm

חֲלָלִ֥יםwoundedḥă·lā·lîm

בָּארוּמָ֑ה in Arumah ,bā·rū·māh
זְבֻ֛לand Zebulzə·ḇul
אֶת־’eṯ-
וַיְגָ֧רֶשׁdroveway·ḡā·reš
גַּ֥עַלGaalga·‘al
וְאֶת־wə·’eṯ-
אֶחָ֖יוand his brothers’e·ḥāw
מִשֶּׁ֥בֶתout ofmiš·še·ḇeṯ
בִּשְׁכֶֽם׃Shechem .biš·ḵem
Judges 9:42וַֽיְהִי֙way·hî
מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔תThe next daymim·mā·ḥo·rāṯ
הָעָ֖םthe people [of Shechem]hā·‘ām
וַיֵּצֵ֥אwent outway·yê·ṣê
הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה into the fields ,haś·śā·ḏeh
וַיַּגִּ֖דוּand this was reportedway·yag·gi·ḏū
לַאֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃to Abimelech .la·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ
Judges 9:43וַיִּקַּ֣חSo he tookway·yiq·qaḥ
אֶת־’eṯ-
הָעָ֗ם his men ,hā·‘ām
וַֽיֶּחֱצֵם֙divided themway·ye·ḥĕ·ṣêm
לִשְׁלֹשָׁ֣הinto threeliš·lō·šāh
רָאשִׁ֔ים companies ,rā·šîm
וַיֶּאֱרֹ֖בand lay in waitway·ye·’ĕ·rōḇ
בַּשָּׂדֶ֑הin the fields .baś·śā·ḏeh
וַיַּ֗רְאWhen he sawway·yar
וְהִנֵּ֤ה. . .wə·hin·nêh
הָעָם֙the peoplehā·‘ām
יֹצֵ֣אcoming outyō·ṣê
מִן־ofmin-
הָעִ֔יר the city ,hā·‘îr
וַיָּ֥קָםhe rose upway·yā·qām
עֲלֵיהֶ֖םagainst them‘ă·lê·hem
וַיַּכֵּֽם׃and attacked them .way·yak·kêm
Judges 9:44וַאֲבִימֶ֗לֶךְThen Abimelechwa·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ
וְהָרָאשִׁים֙and the companieswə·hā·rā·šîm
אֲשֶׁ֣ר’ă·šer
עִמּ֔וֹwith him‘im·mōw
פָּשְׁט֕וּrushed forwardpā·šə·ṭū
וַיַּ֣עַמְד֔וּand took their standway·ya·‘am·ḏū
פֶּ֖תַחat the entrancepe·ṯaḥ
הָעִ֑ירof the cityhā·‘îr
שַׁ֣עַרgate .ša·‘ar
וּשְׁנֵ֣יThe other twoū·šə·nê
הָֽרָאשִׁ֗יםcompanieshā·rā·šîm
פָּֽשְׁט֛וּrushedpā·šə·ṭū
עַֽל־against‘al-
כָּל־allkāl-
אֲשֶׁ֥רwho [were]’ă·šer
בַּשָּׂדֶ֖הin the fieldsbaś·śā·ḏeh
וַיַּכּֽוּם׃and struck them down .way·yak·kūm
Judges 9:45כֹּ֚לAnd allkōl
הַה֔וּאthatha·hū
הַיּ֣וֹםdayhay·yō·wm
וַאֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְAbimelechwa·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ
נִלְחָ֣םfoughtnil·ḥām
בָּעִ֗ירagainst the citybā·‘îr
וַיִּלְכֹּד֙until he had captured itway·yil·kōḏ
אֶת־’eṯ-
הָעִ֔ירhā·‘îr
וְאֶת־wə·’eṯ-
הָרָ֑גand killedhā·rāḡ
הָעָ֥םits peoplehā·‘ām
אֲשֶׁר־’ă·šer-
בָּ֖הּ– .bāh
וַיִּתֹּץ֙Then he demolishedway·yit·tōṣ
אֶת־’eṯ-
הָעִ֔ירthe cityhā·‘îr
וַיִּזְרָעֶ֖הָand sowedway·yiz·rā·‘e·hā
מֶֽלַח׃פit with salt .me·laḥ
