תִהְיֶ֖הwill beṯih·yeh
שְׁמָמָ֥ה desolate ,šə·mā·māh
לֹ֥אbut I will not
וְכָלָ֖הfinish its destructionwə·ḵā·lāh
אֶעֱשֶֽׂה׃. . . .’e·‘ĕ·śeh
Jeremiah 4:28עַל־Therefore‘al-
זֹאת֙. . .zōṯ
הָאָ֔רֶץthe earthhā·’ā·reṣ
תֶּאֱבַ֣לwill mournte·’ĕ·ḇal
הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם[and] the heavenshaš·šā·ma·yim
מִמָּ֑עַלabovemim·mā·‘al
עַ֤ל. . .‘al
כִּי־. . .kî-
וְקָדְר֥וּwill grow dark .wə·qā·ḏə·rū
דִבַּ֙רְתִּי֙ I have spoken ,ḏib·bar·tî
זַמֹּ֔תִי I have planned ,zam·mō·ṯî
וְלֹ֥אand I will notwə·lō
נִחַ֖מְתִּיrelentni·ḥam·tî
וְלֹא־. . .wə·lō-
אָשׁ֥וּבor turn back’ā·šūḇ

בָּ֚אוּThey enterbā·’ū
בֶּעָבִ֔יםthe thicketsbe·‘ā·ḇîm
עָל֑וּand climb‘ā·lū
וּבַכֵּפִ֖יםamong the rocks .ū·ḇak·kê·p̄îm
כָּל־Everykāl-
הָעִ֣ירcityhā·‘îr
עֲזוּבָ֔הis abandoned ;‘ă·zū·ḇāh
וְאֵין־nowə·’ên-
יוֹשֵׁ֥בinhabitant is left .yō·wō·šêḇ
בָּהֵ֖ן. . .bā·hên
אִֽישׁ׃. . .’îš

שָׁד֜וּדO devastatedšā·ḏūḏ

תַּעֲשִׂ֗י what will you do ,ta·‘ă·śî
כִּֽי־thoughkî-
תִלְבְּשִׁ֨יyou dressṯil·bə·šî
שָׁנִ֜י yourself in scarlet ,šā·nî
כִּי־thoughkî-
תַעְדִּ֣יyou adornṯa‘·dî
זָהָ֗בyourself with goldzā·hāḇ
עֲדִי־ jewelry ,‘ă·ḏî-
כִּֽי־thoughkî-
תִקְרְעִ֤יyou enlargeṯiq·rə·‘î
עֵינַ֔יִךְyour eyes‘ê·na·yiḵ
בַפּוּךְ֙with paint ?ḇap·pūḵ
תִּתְיַפִּ֑יYou adorn yourselftiṯ·yap·pî
לַשָּׁ֖וְאin vain ;laš·šāw
עֹגְבִ֖יםyour lovers‘ō·ḡə·ḇîm
מָאֲסוּ־despisemā·’ă·sū-
בָ֥ךְyou ;ḇāḵ
יְבַקֵּֽשׁוּ׃they want to takeyə·ḇaq·qê·šū
נַפְשֵׁ֥ךְyour life .nap̄·šêḵ

שָׁמַ֗עְתִּיI hearšā·ma‘·tî
ק֨וֹלa cryqō·wl
כְּחוֹלָ֜ה like a woman in labor ,kə·ḥō·w·lāh
צָרָה֙a cry of anguishṣā·rāh
כְּמַבְכִּירָ֔הlike one bearing her first child —kə·maḇ·kî·rāh
ק֧וֹלthe cryqō·wl
בַּת־of the Daughterbaṯ-
צִיּ֛וֹןof Zionṣî·yō·wn
תִּתְיַפֵּ֖חַ gasping for breath ,tiṯ·yap·pê·aḥ
תְּפָרֵ֣שׂstretching outtə·p̄ā·rêś
כַּפֶּ֑יהָ her hands [to say] ,kap·pe·hā
אֽוֹי־“ Woe is me’ō·w-
